Amorphous mellite looks like cloudy honey! It's found in the same places as lignite, aka brown coal, which is usually formed from compressed peat. Lignite is also an organic mineral, and it's sometimes cut and polished into the gemstone, jet (as in jet black).

Mellite, also known as honeystone, is a rare organic mineral formed from fossilised plants. It can be crystalline or amorphous, and it's easily scratched, because it's no harder than synthetic plastic. Technically, it's an organometallic compound, aluminium benzenehexacarboxylate hexadecahydrate.

Ok, let's see if this choice manages to win the match! Omphacite is a pyroxene, which are often undervalued in the contest. It's green. Metamorphic. Main ingredient in eclogite, which is squished and heated basalt! #MinCup24
