Round 1 Match 5

It’s time to get spooky with Howlite’s bone-like appearance and Whewellite’s hidden origins.

Howlite is an opaque bone-white mineral, marbled with black veins. It is also a semi-precious gem. Miners, who originally discovered Howlite while looking for gypsum, labeled the cauliflower-like mineral a nuisance. It often also gets marketed as “white turquoise,” due to its massive habit similar to the more popular gem. Whewellite is a mineral of mysterious origins. Along with clearly-geological origins in hydrothermal alteration zones, flakes can be found flirting with biology where lichen grows on marbles and limestones, on the surfaces of cacti, and even in kidney stones.

Time to pick your spooky!
